View as: Print Mobile App Share:

Taiwan expects to have a new supercomputer up and running in July. Working at 170 trillion floating point calculations per second, the new supercomputer should rank between the 51st and 55th most powerful computers in the world.

The National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL) initiated the supercomputer project as part of an initiative to expand Taiwan's research efforts in physics, chemistry, and other fields. NARL is setting up biomedical research centers, developing autonomic space exploration systems, pursuing exchanges involving nano-scale technologies, and is launching a large research ship.

The supercomputer will be launched as part of the Republic of China's centennial celebrations.
