Open Source Programming Tools on the Rise
Several open source programming tools are gaining in popularity as developers seek new ways to revise, fix, and extend their code.
Rhomobile Rhodes is an open source platform for combining Ruby Web sites and placing them in iPhone apps. Git makes every copy with its own central database and offers tools for merging the resulting repositories. Gerrit lets code validators send comments to the central Git repository, which creates an extensive layer of discussion on top of the code itself.
Hadoop is a general toolkit that splits work into pieces that can be computed on separate servers and then rejoined for the final product. JQuery is a collection of plug-ins that consists of tools for enhancing Web sites. Emacs LISP has been used for nearly 20 years but is still just as popular and useful. Eclipse and the Eclipse Marketplace help users find the tools they need.
Firebug is a programming tool built directly into Firefox's Mozilla Web browser. Preprocessors modify the code before the complier latches on, enabling users to program in a certain language while writing in a different language and converting it to the original language later. Build management tools such as Cruise Control and Continuum makes it easier to rebuild software. NoSQL make it easier to deploy software to the cloud.
