Stenanography

Indian researchers have targeted executable files for use in stenanography because that can vary enormously in size and are usually difficult to examine because they comprise compiled computer code. For example, computer scientists Rajesh Kumar Tiwari of the GLNA Institute of Technology and G. Sahoo of the Birla Institute of Technology developed an algorithm for embedding hidden data in executable files. The researchers built the algorithm into a program with a graphical user interface that would take a conventional executable file and the data to be hidden as input and merge the two producing a viable executable file with a hidden payload.

The researchers say the technology could be used on smartphones, tablet PCs, portable media players, and other information devices on which users might want to hide data.
