Researchers at the University of Electro-Communications' Kajimoto Laboratory have developed a tactile communication system dubbed the Kiss Transmission Device. The device involves one user using their mouth to submit data through a straw attached to a computer, and another user receiving the information through the same device attached to a different computer.

"The goal is to obtain the feeling of kissing" through bilateral control that replicates the same movement on both ends, says Kajimoto Laboratory researcher Nobuhiro Takahashi. He says more advanced versions of the system could mimic taste, breathing, and tongue moistness to make Internet kisses more realistic.

"If we can recreate all of those, I think it will be a really powerful device," Takahashi says. He notes that the system also enables the kissing information of celebrities to be recorded and replayed.
