Microsoft has released a new program that enables users to navigate multiple computers with a single mouse and keyboard. Mouse Without Borders, which is available as a free download, enables users to copy and paste from one computer on the desk to the next, drag and drop files from one machine to the next, simultaneously log into all PCs, and lock all connected PCs at once. The program synchs up to four PCs with one unit, as long as all computers run on the same local network.

After installing Mouse Without Borders on the first PC, users receive a security key, and the information must be keyed into the other PCs to link them. The program is a product of the Garage, a physical place and company program that encourages tinkering and project incubation by employees outside regular working hours.

Developer Truong Do created Mouse Without Borders because he wanted an easier way to control PCs in the office. The program was exposed to 9,000 people at the Garage and science fairs within Microsoft before it was ready for external release as a free download.
