Software Developer Shows Face-Swapping in Realtime
Software developer Arturo Castro and media artist Kyle MacDonald have put out a video demo of their software that replaces their faces with other faces in real time.

New software can now replace a face with another in real time.
In a video demonstration, software developer Arturo Castro and media artist Kyle McDonald change their faces to those of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Marilyn Monroe, and Andy Warhol while pouting, grimacing, and performing other facial antics. Castro used the open source platform openFrameworks to develop the technology he calls Realtime Face Substitution. OpenFrameworks is a coding toolkit that has simplified for designers and artists, with C++ as the programming language.
Castro used the FaceTracker library, a C/C++ API for real time face alignment and tracking, designed by Jason Saragih. "I'm also using Kyle McDonald's ofxFaceTracker add-on for openFrameworks, which wraps Jason's library for easier use," he says. Castro says he considered how such technology could be used for identity theft before producing the video, and he also plans to use the technology for art-making projects.
