nc Charlotte Professor's Signcryption Technology Tightens Cyber Security

University of North Carolina-Charlotte professor Yuliang Zheng has developed signcryption, data security technology that was recently recognized as an international standard by the International Organization of Standardization.
Zheng says that signcryption shields confidentiality and achieves authenticity simultaneously.
Signcryption "will now be the standard worldwide for protecting confidentiality and authenticity during transmissions of digital information," Zheng says. The new technology prevents a person's username and password from being seen by unauthorized individuals and at the same time verifies that person's identity.
"This will also allow smaller devices, such as smartphones and [personal digital assistants], 3G and 4G mobile communications, as well as emerging technologies, such as radio frequency identifiers and wireless sensor networks, to perform high-level security functions," he says.
