Demystifying Robotics
The study of robotics exposes students to multiple disciplines, including mechanical engineering, software programming, electronics, and human psychology.

University of Bristol computer scientists are working with students from a local U.K. secondary school as part of a project to expose them to robotics. The Bristol students have developed novel products in collaboration with students from the University of West of England, with students from the Nailsea School acting as stakeholders. The goal of the project is to introduce robotic concepts to the Nailsea students.
The development of the novel products provided an opportunity to teach a new generation about robotics and make it fun. The Bristol students recently presented their prototypes to companies such as BBC, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft at an event.
"Back in the 1980s the BBC Micro excited a generation of children into understanding the [information technology] revolution and it is this generation that has been responsible for the U.K.'s success in the games industry," says Bristol project leader Kirsten Cater. "Robotics is a great field to get children interested in because there are so many options for further study and exploration."
