CeBIT: Robot Obeys to Commands and Gestures

Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology will present technology innovations designed to augment daily living at the upcoming CeBIT Fair.

For example, the ARMAR robot can understand and independently execute commands, and it reacts to gestures and learns by watching a human complete a task. Also at CeBIT, a large-area three-dimensional video wall will give insight into the virtual world, with the models of the heart, lungs, and Karlsruhe city area being presented as examples. In addition, researchers will present the Energy Management Panel, a graphic interface for interaction between the decentralized energy management system in a building and its users.

FZI will show how hybrid cloud computing solves the problems of reliable service quality, the connection of the software stock, and security. The researchers also will present a solution for the safe relocation of groupware data in the cloud. In addition, FZI researchers have developed House of Living Labs intelligent Escort, a two-armed service robot that can be used in apartments and combines robotics, ambient assisted living, and mobility services technology.
