Tech Industry Climbs Out of Silicon Valley, Moves Abroad

Washington, D.C., has replaced Silicon Valley as the locus for technology jobs as non-tech industries continue to add tech professionals, according to Dice.com.
Although competition for technology skills may be the toughest in Silicon Valley and New York City, Dice.com says the technology boom is happening faster in other locations and producing many new job openings.
Dice.com notes that many old-school businesses are looking to reinvent themselves and are seeking tech professionals to help point the way to a new future. For example, Dice.com lists Raleigh, N.C., as one of the fastest-growing cities for tech jobs, with a 50 percent growth rate since March 2011. Although the city is home to Red Hat, government, education, and health care are the industries doing most of the technology hiring in the Raleigh-Durham area. Another top spot for technology openings is Richmond, Va., which Dice.com says is the second-fastest growing U.S. city in terms of technology jobs. Over half of its jobs are in government and services.
