Intel Eyes Future With Computers That Learn

Intel's Collaborative Research Institute for Computational Intelligence will work with researchers in Israel to develop devices that will learn about their users. The new devices, such as small, wearable computers than can enhance daily life, will be based on technology that mimics the brain.
"All of these devices will come to know us as individuals, will very much tailor themselves to us," says Intel's Justin Rattner. For example, he says the devices would take note when its users leave the car keys in the house, and would remind them to pick up the keys before leaving home the following week. The devices would continually record what the user is doing.
Intel will work with specialists from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and the Hebrew University, and Rattner believes devices will be ready by 2014 or 2015. "Within five years all of the human senses will be in computers and in 10 years we will have more transistors in one chip than neurons in the human brain," says Intel's Moody Eden.
