W3c Launches Web Standards Documentation Site

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recently launched Web Platform Docs, a Web site with tutorials and other documentation that provides information on current Web standards.
The site also was designed to provide more user feedback to the developers of the Web standards themselves. "Although we have produced material for designers and developers in the past, this is the W3C's biggest scale effort specifically for documentation," says W3C's Ian Jacobs.
Web Platform Docs aims to be a one-stop shop for learning the Web technologies and their underlying standards. The site also will provide a more effective feedback loop between developers and users. "If there is more community input that a working group would have access to easily, that may give them important feedback and improve the standard," Jacobs says.
The tutorials are designed to teach developers how to deploy Web technologies so that they can run across multiple platforms. "It has been a great start, but this is [only] the beginning of the effort," says Microsoft's Michael Champion. "It is not a finished product."
