Intel Researchers Work on New Way to Display, Share Images

Intel researchers are developing Display without Borders, a system to display photos and videos in order to make them more social and collaborative.
"It's about being able to display images of any type on any surface," says Intel's Manny Vara. "It changes the way we interact with things."
The system is comprised of a laptop, a Microsoft Connect sensor, and a projector. Pictures and videos can be moved from the computer to virtually any smooth surface with the flick of a finger, while images can be reconfigured, enlarged, or made smaller with other movements. Vara says the sensors pick up the motion of the user's hand and turn the touches into directions. More sensors enable augmented tracking and sensors offer better tracking.
"It knows when you grab a photo and it knows if it's going left or right," Vara says. He predicts that in the future users will not have to touch the image of the photos or video to move them or activate them, and instead they will be done by gesture.
Vara says the system could be a useful technology for enterprises, enabling workers to more easily collaborate in a meeting.
