Time-Lapse Code Wins Raspberry Pi Contest

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has named Aaron Hill and Ashley Newson the winners of its summer coding contest for teenagers.
Hill, 12, took the first prize of $1,000 in the 13 and under category for developing software, called PySnap, which enables people to connect a USB camera to a Raspberry Pi computer and fine tune the interval at which the device takes pictures. In the 14-18 category, Newson, 17, took the top prize for developing SmartSim, a digital circuit and simulation package.
Other winners in the 13 and under category included a device controller and text-based world simulator, while winners in the 14-18 category included a game, a Web server, a file synchronizer, and a music player.
"We had entries from all over the world, which really delighted us," says Raspberry Pi Foundation's Liz Upton. The foundation plans to hold regular competitions for young programmers.
