Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace Meeting

The recent U.S. National Science Foundation Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) Principal Investigator Meeting gave NSF an opportunity to build the community of principal investigators, encourage new research and collaboration, and identify new areas for future investment. NSF director Subra Suresh opened the event with welcoming remarks, and Farnam Jahanian, assistant director for computer and information science and engineering, spoke about the importance of SaTC, which is NSF's flagship program for cybersecurity research.
Google's Eric Grosse says the company's goal is to raise security for home users to the level of corporate users. However, he also sees protecting individuals from government snooping as a key requirement.
Malware, authentication, network security, product vulnerabilities, and economic crimes are Grosse's key worries. He notes that fuzz testing is still an effective way to find problems, and a browser rollback feature remains a wish.
