InterKnowlogy chairman and Actus Interactive Software CEO Tim Huckaby predicts that in the near future doctors will be manipulating molecules in three-dimensional space, augmented music players will be tuning into our thoughts, and retailers will be providing coupons in real time based on how consumers gaze across store shelves. Huckaby has spent decades working on emerging technology and he foresees rapid evolution for the user interface (UI) field. InterKnowlogy and Actus focus on UI development.
Huckaby predicts where the development of gesture-based UIs is headed, but also cites neural-based interfaces, which could read a person's mind. He says possibilities within the next 10 years include a "holodeck" that displays holographic images, and a neural-based interface that offers a direct pathway between the brain and external devices.
Huckaby also has high hopes for gesture-based interfaces, which he says will be critical to applications that are not easily navigated with a keyboard or mouse.
