Linux-Savvy It Pros Are in High Demand, Low Supply
IT professionals with Linux skills are increasingly in demand by government and the private sector.

Businesses and government agencies are aggressively looking to add information technology (IT) professionals with Linux skills as a result of trends such as open cloud development, big data, and the rise in migrations to Linux, according to Dice and the Linux Foundation.
Their new survey of 850 hiring managers found that 93 percent want to hire a Linux professional within the next six months. Systems administrator is the Linux job in highest demand, cited by 73 percent, but they also are looking for Linux professionals who understand embedded development and Linux kernel architecture, Linux developers to create new products, devices and applications, and workers with development expertise.
Hiring managers realize that this will be a challenge, with 90 percent saying it will be somewhat difficult or very difficult to find experienced Linux professionals, up 4 percent from a year ago. Moreover, nearly 25 percent have sought training for current employees to meet their Linux needs.
Salaries for Linux professionals have risen 9 percent to $90,853, outpacing the 5 percent increase in tech salaries overall.
Also, 56 percent of the 2,600 Linux professionals surveyed said it would be fairly easy or very easy to find a new job.
