Raspberry Pi Gets Easier to Use With Noobs Software
Software from New Out of the Box Software (Noobs) provides users with a choice of operating systems for use with their Raspberry Pi minicomputers, including ArchLinux, OpenELEC, Pidora, and RaspBMC.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is now offering downloadable software that will make its mini-computer easier to use.
New Out of the Box Software (Noobs) will provide users with a choice of operating systems to install, including ArchLinux, OpenELEC, Pidora, and RaspBMC. The software also could be used to reinstall operating systems if there is a problem, says founder Eben Upton.
"The Raspberry Pi is a great platform if your parent is an engineer or you have a teacher who is an enthusiast, but if you don't have a tech-savvy adult on hand it can be quite a technical operation," Upton notes.
The affordable device is designed to encourage young people to do more programming, and more than 1 million units have sold since it went on sale last February. The foundation has plans for more user-friendly moves, but critics say it is dumbing down the device.
