App Security Testing Tool
A new system will allow developers to generate individual reports for every app and operating system.

A new system for testing the security of apps is being developed by researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT). The Appicaptor test framework is designed to provide developers with individual reports for every app and operating system.
The software consists of different analytic methods and tools, and works on both Android and iOS-based smartphones. The testing tool screens for security gaps and malware automatically, and regularly scans at intervals as apps are modified and reconfigured frequently.
Organizations will be able to draw up a list of apps that employees are free to install on their smartphones, or create a list of apps that are dangerous and must be avoided. The software also will generate warnings informing users of suspicious activity.
"We anticipate that apps will become better as a result of increasing checks, and security gaps will be less and less of a problem," says SIT's Jens Heider.
