Prace Demonstrates Strong Support For European High-Impact Science
In response to PRACE's 7th Regular Call for Proposals, 118 projects requested time on one of the organization's high-performance computing systems, of which just 42 proposals were awarded.

PRACE’s 7th Regular Call for Proposals highlighted the increased demand for European high-performance computing (HPC) resources. This year, an all-time high 118 projects led by researchers from academia and industry requested time on one of PRACE's HPC systems. Due to the larger size of the projects, only 42 proposals were awarded, including the renewal of seven multi-year projects.
"It is clear that the scientific community as a whole needs more computational resources, especially more of the world-class quality that PRACE can provide," says PRACE professor Claudio Zannoni.
Two large projects are linked to a European Union grant. The HiResClim: High Resolution Ensemble Climate Modeling project received more than 50 million core hours and is expected to substantially contribute to raising the profile of the European Network for Earth System Modelling community, especially in the field of climate prediction, both at the European and international level. The LAIT project received 20 million core hours and aims to develop new theories on solar energy harvesting and ultra-fast and ultra-high density magnetic data storage.
