Watch the Intricate Patterns of Global Infrastructure Emerge From Geocoded Tweets
A navigable map of geo-tagged Twitter data shows where in Europe individuals are Tweeting.

Northeastern University professor Alan Mislove has created a global, navigable map of geo-tagged Twitter data.
Although the 275 million tweets in Mislove's map represent only the 1.5 percent of messages that are geo-tagged, they provide a view of the transportation networks of large stretches of the globe.
"The fact that you can see roads for example, took me completely by surprise," Mislove says.
The maps show Interstates 20, 85, and 75 feeding into Atlanta; ferry boats crossing the English Channel between Dover and Calais; and ferries between Holyhead in the United Kingdom and Dublin. It also shows ferries out of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara; and the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, San Mateo Bridge, and Dumbarton Bridge in San Francisco.
