The Computing Research Association's Computing Community Consortium (CCC) has launched a program to "develop, implement and institutionalize the implementation of best practices for supporting postdocs."

The program, which is being supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer & Information Science and Engineering (CISE), will award grants to institutions, or consortia of institutions, to implement best practices "for strengthening the postdoc experience in computer science and computing-related fields," according to a CCC blog posting.  "These supporting programs will enable PhD graduates to transition effectively to research roles in a variety of sectors."

According to a description of its request for proposals, CCC hopes to foster "systemic and permanent change in our community" through "innovations that will make lasting changes to improve the postdoc experience.  Innovations may improve mentoring; provide training in myriad research skills; develop host institution or department support structures for both postdocs and advisors; build a mutually supportive community of postdocs (and mentors) locally or across virtual space; counsel postdocs on alternative career positions; guide graduate students in analyzing and selecting postdoc opportunities; or other similar activities. "

Proposals will be accepted at http://postdocbp.org/submit through November 15, 2013. For more information, please visit that site or email [email protected].
