Google has released the beta version of a tool that is designed to help Web developers create interactive and vibrant Internet content using HTML5.

Google Web Designer enables users to create animated HTML5 creative content that will be able to run on any device, while enabling them to view and edit the code behind their designs and see their edits instantly, says Google's Jasmine Rogers. Users will be able to build their advertising content for use with DoubleClick and AdMob, or use it elsewhere as needed.

Google wants to provide developers and designers with new tools that can take advantage of the power of HTML5, which is expected to eclipse Flash in popularity in the next several years. "HTML5 is a universal language for building beautiful, engaging content that can run across desktops, smartphones, and tablets," Rogers says.

Google also is offering online tutorials for Google Web Designer.
