Enhancing Security in Apple Devices
Boosting security for mobile devices is a top priority for service providers and consumers.

Apple addressed some complicated security issues before releasing iOS 7 in September, thanks to A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R). A*STAR researchers uncovered three vulnerabilities and notified Apple of its findings in October 2012.
"While Apple has made significant efforts to secure iOS and provide a secure mobile platform for its users, we wanted to test just how secure the operating system was and how to improve security further if any vulnerabilities were identified," says I2R's Jianying Zhou.
Working with researchers from the School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University, the team found flaws that would enable a hacker to access a user's passcode, interfere with incoming calls, and post unauthorized content on Twitter.
The researchers developed three theoretical attack scenarios to test whether the mobile operating system would work as intended. They proposed solutions to reinforce security through additional entitlement checks and to improve Apple's vetting process for third-party applications.
