The Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) recently announced the findings of the Dataverse Network (DVN), a collaborative project created to explore the capabilities of an open source application that assists with publishing, referencing, extracting, and analyzing research data.
"This project has been an excellent example of how collaborative efforts between institutions and groups of library and IT professionals can provide significant value to the SURA membership," says SURA's Gary Crane.
Some organizations have examined the use of DVN as a data repository environment to address data management and data-sharing needs in other research domains. SURA teamed with the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries to bring together research, IT, and library leaders to explore issues and possible solutions to the rapidly increasing demands for improving the management of research data. The effort was driven by new requirements from funding agencies and the research communities' needs to effectively manage the increasing size of its data sets.
