Apple's Swift Language Achieves 1.0 Release Milestone

Apple announced it has achieved version 1.0 status for its new Swift programming language. Moreover, version 1.0 has achieved "golden master (GM)" status for iOS, and the company is now accepting apps that use Swift in the App Store.
Apple unveiled Swift in early June as a modern programming language for building iOS and OS X apps. Swift offers capabilities such as inferred data types, closures, and automatic reference.
"You can now submit your apps that use Swift to the App Store," Apple says. "Whether your app uses Swift for a small feature or a complete application, now is the time to share your app with the world. It's your turn to excite everyone with your new creations."
Apple expects Swift to achieve GM status for the Mac when Yosemite ships this fall. Swift for OS X requires the OS X Yosemite software development kit. Apple says it is using GM rather than "final" because it will continue to advance Swift's features, performance, and syntax. "In fact, you can expect a few improvements to come in Xcode 6.1 in time for the Yosemite launch," Apple says.
