White House Introduces New Class of Innovation Fellows

The White House has revealed the assignments and backgrounds of its third class of Presidential Innovation Fellows (PIF).
Ten of the 27 incoming fellows are women, and the group overall specializes in design, development, data, and management.
The innovative technologists will spend a year addressing tough government problems, including six fellows at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs who will work on technology to better serve veterans. The rest will be scattered throughout nine departments, including four at the Energy Department, three at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and two at the Internal Revenue Service, the National Archives and Records Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Labor and State departments.
Selected from more than 1,000 applicants, the fellows will be supported by 18F (a digital government program with the goal of accelerating innovation among agencies) and work alongside the new U.S. Digital Service. The new class was sworn in last week, and Fellows from the past two years have worked on a handful of projects at more than 20 agencies.
The PIF program was launched under former federal chief technology officer Todd Park, who launched the program to help attract private-sector tech to the public sector.
