Topcoder Now Has 3,700 Swift Devs
Appirio, which owns and operates the popular topcoder platform for outsourced enterprise development talent, says it has registered more than 3,700 Swift developers who are now working on 2,000 projects in 110 countries.

Appirio, which owns and operates the TopCoder platform, says it has the largest gathering of Swift experts in one virtual community. Appirio estimates it has registered more than 3,700 Swift developers who are working on 2,000 projects in 110 countries.
Apple's new programming language in the C family combines the robustness of Objective-C with the speed of scripting languages such as Python. The recent, official launch of OS X Yosemite means developers can now submit apps written in Swift to the App Store.
CITEworld's Simon Bisson views Swift as a big achievement for Apple. He says the language gives "its developers the tooling they want, [reducing] the risk of App Store apps being developed outside Xcode (and being delivered to other platforms), and [simplifying] the App Store approvals process."
Appirio introduced a certification program in August to help get developers, designers, and data scientists up to speed on Swift.
Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is sponsoring a challenge that offers prizes for integrating Swift apps with HP IDOL OnDemand application programming interfaces.
