Fulbright Award Takes Computer Scientist to France
A Fulbright Scholarship will allow one Arizona State University professor to study at the French Institute for Research in Computer Science Automation for six months.

Arizona State University professor Arunabha Sen was chosen as one of this year's Fulbright Scholars, enabling him to spend six months at the French Institute for Research in Computer Science Automation studying wireless sensor networks, robot networks, and radio-frequency identification devices (RFID).
Sen's research, which has been funded by the U.S. Army Research Office, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Office of Naval Research, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the National Science Foundation, focuses on resource optimization problems in communications, power distributions, and social networks. "I became interested in my research specialties primarily because they are based on discrete structures, and discrete mathematical techniques can be used to find their solutions," Sen says.
While in France, Sen will be working with the Future Ubiquitous Network research group for the design of resource-efficient algorithms for RFID device tagging in a mobile environment. Sen says his research is use-inspired rather than curiosity-driven, and notes the work excites him most because it is "intellectually challenging and at the same time immensely useful."
