New JavaScript tools are helping keep obscure programming languages such as Pascal, Lisp, and Cobol alive.

For example, Elevate Software has developed a tool that converts ObjectPascal into JavaScript.

CobolScript is a Node.js suite that will place many parts of standard Cobol alongside JavaScript code written for the Node.js server.

EdgeLisp offers many of Lisp's standard constructs, and Parenscript offers the full power of Lisp macros.

Clamato converts many of the simple Smalltalk constructs into the parts of JavaScript that are similar.

Logo, the original IDE, can still be used today if the browser is equipped with Logo Interpreter.

Qb.js is a JavaScript implementation that runs on modern browsers.

NSBasic produces code for JavaScript environments that run on desktops and mobile devices, enabling developers who do not want to work with more complex languages such as Eclipse or XCode to produce programs for their smartphones.

Finally, SpiderBasic offers access to all of the HTML5 and WebGl hooks necessary for developing a modern, multiwindow Web app.
