Federal Researchers Want to ntangle Internet of Things
The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology has released its Draft Framework for Cyber-Physical Systems.

The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) last week announced the release of its Draft Framework for Cyber-Physical Systems to help guide manufacturers through the steps involved in launching smart systems.
The document also means to boost the interconnectivity of these systems by providing manufacturers with a common analysis methodology.
"What we need is some common vocabulary and understanding of cyber-physical systems (CPS) so that developers in different domains can develop cyber-physical systems and Internet of Things products that will be better aligned with this interconnected complex environment," says NIST's David Wollman.
He notes although there are major growth opportunities in the world of CPS, realizing this potential requires a certain amount of organization. Different domains should all analyze their systems using the NIST document because it will enable each of the systems to better align with each other.
The strategy organizes the many elements involved in these systems into "aspects," which are the many concerns accompanying these devices, and "facets," which are the development steps involved in creating each device.
The public can comment on the document for the next six weeks, and then NIST expects to create a second draft, followed by another review cycle.
