The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently named computational mathematician Richard Tapia of Rice University recipient of the 2016 AAAS Public Engagement with Science Award. The award recognizes Tapia’s “remarkable career blending world-class scholarship, admirable mentoring and profound contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and public engagement.”
Tapia was the first recipient of CRA’s A. Nico Habermann award in 1994, and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing conference is named in his honor.
