Face Recognition System 'k-Eye' Presented By Kaist

A new semiconductor chip called a CNN Processor powers the K-Eye facial-recognition system.

Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have developed a semiconductor chip called a CNN Processor (CNNP), which runs artificial intelligence algorithms with ultra-low power, as well as K-Eye, a face-recognition system using CNNP.

The K-Eye system features a wearable device that can be used with a smartphone via Bluetooth, and can operate for more than 24 hours with its internal battery.

K-Eye users can check information about people by using their smartphone or smartwatch, and the device also enables users to access a database via their smart devices.

Meanwhile, K-Eye's included dongle can recognize and share information about users at any time.

The K-Eye system also includes an "always-on" image sensor, which can determine if there is a face in its camera range and will capture frames and set the device to operate only when a face exists.
