Code.org Gears p to Get 30,000 Students Psyched p About Computer Science

Code.org recently launched "Computer Science Discoveries," a free year-long course designed to provide more than 30,000 low-income students with an opportunity to learn how to program.
The course will be taught by more than 800 teachers during the school year.
Code.org says the program is designed for students in grades seven through nine, and teaches Web design, physical computing, and game creation.
The program forms part of Code.org's initiative to broaden minority and low-income community participation in the computer sciences. The course also is intended to help teachers by focusing on instructors who have never before taught computer science.
Computer Science Discoveries uses computer science to stimulate creativity and communication among students, and Code.org and its partner, Adafruit, also are subsidizing at least 70% of the cost of an Arduino-based circuit board kit called Adafruit's Circuit Playground.
