There Are More Programming Jobs Than Ever Outside of Silicon Valley
Just as the work of Wall Street no longer happens just on Wall Street, programming is now happening all over the U.S.

Programming jobs have spread across the U.S. and pooled in other metro areas outside of Silicon Valley, according to data from Glassdoor.
Seattle is now the home of the greatest share of software-job openings, surpassing San Jose, but software jobs--not just openings--in San Jose climbed 36% from 2012 to 2016, according to federal jobs data, suggesting Silicon Valley is not slowing down.
The 10 cities with the largest change in job postings for programmers from 2012 to 2017, according to Glassdoor's listings are, in order, Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Austin, San Diego, Denver, Detroit, and Houston.
Amazon has fueled Seattle's rise to the top of the list, as it now employs 25,000 programmers in the city and continues to expand.
Meanwhile, federal jobs data indicates the number of programming jobs is growing 15% a year nationally.
