Asu Team Takes Cyberbullying App Public
Arizona State University researchers have released their free BullyBlocker smartphone application, designed to help combat online bullying.

Researchers at Arizona State University (ASU) have publicly released their BullyBlocker smartphone application, which they designed to combat online bullying by enabling parents and victims to monitor, predict, and hopefully prevent such victimization.
In addition to flagging possible keyword threats on social media platforms, BullyBlocker blends that information with risk factors that have been shown to elevate the likelihood of bullying. The app then calculates the probability that a teenager is being bullied based on keywords and risk factors, and alerts the app user.
The researchers say the first version of the app works in conjunction with Facebook, while future versions are in development to include other social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.
The initial version of BullyBlocker is available for free, and the ASU team says they will fund work to develop the upgraded versions with a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
