Grand Canyon University recently hosted more than 80 teachers from across Arizona for a free, five-day workshop on how to integrate computer science curriculums into their classrooms.

The teachers learned how to implement a no-cost, open source, standards-aligned computer science curriculum developed by Code.org.

The five-day workshop is part of a year-long program during which teachers also attend day-long workshops throughout the school year. The program's ultimate goal is to interest more students in computer science jobs, according to Cori Araza, director of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) outreach and program development at Grand Canyon University.

Araza says the best way to make sure students are ready to become computer scientists is to train their teachers.
