Brown University researchers were able to hack a University of Washington (UW) robot connected to the Internet.

UW researchers had connected their SCENE Herb2 robot to the Internet. Colleagues at Brown University ran a search for Internet-connected research robots in labs, and were able to take command of Herb2.

The Brown researchers said, "As a proof of concept, and with consent, we were able to read image sensor information and move the robot of a research group in a U.S. university."

Said Brown's Kristin Houser, "If we don't want [robots] suddenly acting as puppets for malicious actors, we're going to need to pay a lot more attention to their security."
