The University of Arizona's Hurwitz Laboratory is helping researchers around the world have greater access to the data collected at remote ocean sites.

The Hurwitz Lab organizes big data sets into a more searchable form to help scientists study microorganisms and how they relate to each other, their hosts, and the environment.

The lab is developing a data infrastructure to integrate and build information from diverse data stores in collaboration with the broader cyber community, with the ultimate goal of giving people the ability to use datasets that span a range of storage servers.

Although the project is still in its first year, the initial data has been released under the iMicrobe platform, which provides users with interactive visualizations they can mine to drive science forward.
