Researchers at Ahmedabad University and Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering in India have developed a system that uses machine learning to automatically match individuals in videos with their descriptions.
The researchers trained the system on 110 different videos of people shot from different angles and distances.
When provided with a new video and a physical description, the system looks for people in each frame and calculates their height. If several people in the video are the same height, the system narrows down the selection using the color of their clothing and their gender.
During testing, the system correctly identified 28 out of 41 people.
The researchers aim to improve the accuracy of the system by adding the ability to distinguish between people's builds, poses, and styles of clothing.
