German Supplier nveils New Self-Driving Car Computer, Adds Xilinx Chips

German auto parts supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG (ZF) launched ProAI RobotThink, its newest self-driving car computer at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.
ZF hopes the new system will one day power fully autonomous cars that can drive anywhere, known as "level five" driving.
The computer is geared toward traditional automakers, ride-hailing companies, and robo-taxi services working on alternative types of vehicles.
ZF's computer has the option of using Xilinx chips, marking one of the rare times such chips have been used to speed up computing for a more advanced self-driving system. That would include "level four" driving, enabling cars to drive themselves on certain roads or in certain geographic areas.
