Apple and U.S. insurance firm Aetna have partnered on a new Apple Watch application, through which users can access detailed health records.
The partners' Attain app will launch in the months ahead, tapping wearers' health history and live data generated by the watch to personalize healthcare recommendations.
The two companies have pledged that no personally identifiable data will be shared with Apple, nor will personal information be sold, disclosed to employers, or used to inform coverage decisions by the insurer.
The collaborators added that the health data will be compiled voluntarily, and will only be used to support the Attain program.
Users will be allowed to opt in to share Attain information and their overall health history with Apple, which will be applied to service enhancement via analytics and machine learning.
