British Military Invests £1M into Headsets that Create Hostile VR Environments for Soldiers Training

The British Army is testing virtual reality (VR) headsets that can combine virtual environments with physical objects to create a mixed-reality training experience.
The Virtual Reality Training pilot is being tested by the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MOD) through a million-pound contract with Czech software developer Bohemia Interactive, with the eventual goal of integrating the technology within frontline military training.
The VR headsets can create a range of complex and hostile scenarios, such as heavy cross-fires and crowds, which can be difficult to achieve through traditional "live" training formats.
Said Brigadier Bobby Walton-Knight CBE, head of training capability at the MOD, "The technology could save the military a significant amount of money in the long term as it removes costs that range from transporting soldiers to training grounds, as well as the costs of equipment."
