Blockchain network provider Ripple has added 11 universities to its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), launched last June to accelerate research, technical development, and innovation in the blockchain, cryptocurrency, and digital payments spheres.

The new institutions include Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, and Tsinghua University in China.

Said Eric van Miltenburg, senior vice president of global operations at Ripple, "Blockchain is an incredibly transformational technology and helping advance the best minds in the world, who are already showing interest in this field, is sure to benefit the entire ecosystem. ...Expanding the ecosystem to a more global, diversified network of UBRI partners will only continue to enrich these projects."
