Massachusetts School Recognized for Diversity in Computer Science

Saugus High School in Massachusetts has earned the first College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Female Diversity Award, for realizing high female representation in computer science (CS) courses.
Recipients have either 50% or higher female representation in one of the two AP CS courses, or a percentage of the female CS examinees meeting or surpassing that of the school's female student body.
Saugus High School principal Michael Hashem said, "We are committed to encouraging our female students to pursue their interests in the (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) STEM fields and in such courses as AP Computer Science."
AP Computer Science course participation has risen 135% since 2016, increasing STEM career opportunities for more students.
Moreover, the number of female, rural, and underrepresented minority students taking AP CS exams has more than doubled.
