Robotic Heads Powered by AI to Help Passengers at Major German Airport

Frankfurt Airport in Germany is staging a six-week trial of a robotic head powered by artificial intelligence as an information resource for travelers.

Frankfurt Airport in Germany is staging a six-week trial of a robotic head powered by artificial intelligence (AI) as an information resource for travelers.

The FRAnny robot will supply information on topics like departure gates, Wi-Fi access, and restaurant locations, communicating with passengers in nine languages.

The robot's technology is based on AI and what Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport called a "cloud-based voice user interface."

FRAnny employs data from the airport's information system, and is capable of understanding and answering questions from humans on airport facilities and travel information; a deployment at Berlin's central railway station is scheduled for June.

The service is a joint project between Fraport and DB Systel, the information technology service provider for Germany's Deutsche Bahn rail firm.
