Researchers at the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark, as part of the VIRTue project, have developed Bear & Co, an immersive experience that brings users into the world of a fictitious Internet of Things (IoT) start-up.
Bear & Co allows participants to become an "employee" of the company and see how seemingly innocuous decisions can result in ethical difficulties.
Participants are asked to state their values, and then those values are tested through different scenarios and problems.
After the experience is over, user decisions are compared with the initial set of core values, often showing a misalignment between the two.
Said project coordinator Irina Shklovski, "Bear & Co is designed to make people think more deeply about the decisions that have to be made when developing an IoT product."
