Driverless Delivery Vans Are Here as Production Begins in China

Chinese startup Neolix has initiated mass production of self-driving delivery vehicles, with expectations of shipping 1,000 units in its first year.
Neolix founder Yu Enyuan has been testing more than 100 such driverless delivery vans on Chinese campuses, and in other enclosed sites.
Yu said unmanned delivery vehicles face fewer regulatory barriers to deployment than autonomous vehicles, while self-driving trucks are carrying mail between Phoenix and Dallas, and Silicon Valley's Nuro began operating a robo-delivery service with the Kroger grocery chain in Arizona late last year.
Neolix's first production line in the city of Changzhou has a yearly capacity of more than 30,000 vehicles.
Yu said the firm intends to establish plants overseas with partners as sales build momentum.
The company is aiming for annual sales of 100,000 vehicles within five years.
