Samsung said its newest smart TV models should be regularly checked for malware, with a video on the Samsung Support USA Twitter account demonstrating remote-control commands for performing the check. The company advised owners to conduct checks "every few weeks" to "prevent malicious software attacks."
Samsung's latest smart TVs use a version of its proprietary Tizen operating system, and are often pre-equipped with McAfee's Security for TV anti-virus software.
Security Headers' Scott Helme doubts many users will follow Samsung's recommendation. "At the very least, Samsung should provide an on-screen prompt if this were really necessary," Helme says.
