NASA Hack sed Raspberry Pi
A federal review of a 2018 data breach at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory discovered an unauthorized Raspberry Pi computer was exploited to access the network, and steal 500 megabytes of data from mission systems. The U.S. Office of the Inspector General determined this incident underscores NASA's lax security measures, which let hackers move freely between different systems, because the network is implemented as a shared environment. The discovery raises concerns that hackers could potentially access and transmit "malicious signals to human space flight missions."
The audit also cited a "lack of visibility into JPL systems," too many openings for third parties to access NASA's information technology systems, and significant lag time in addressing security problems.
